‘No coward soul is mine’ bracelet | Emily Brontë

The Brontë Collection

This bracelet is etched in pale blue glow-in-the-dark pigment with the first words of one of the last poems Emily Brontë wrote before she wrote Wuthering Heights.

£2 goes to the Brontë Society to support their learning programme.

Emily died at 30, and like all good writing about death, this poem is really about life, and I love the intimate and powerful connection she has not with religion or 'creeds' but with her own, infinite, wondrous 'ever-present Deity'. It is said that Emily Dickinson asked for it to read at her funeral.

No Coward Soul Is Mine

No coward soul is mine,
No trembler in the world's storm-troubled sphere:
I see Heaven's glories shine,
And faith shines equal, arming me from Fear.

O God within my breast,
Almighty, ever-present Deity!
Life - that in me hast rest,
As I - Undying Life- have power in Thee!

Vain are the thousand creeds
That move men's hearts, unutterably vain;
Worthless as withered weeds
Or idlest froth amid the boundless main,

To waken doubt in one
Holding so fast by Thine infinity;
So surely anchored on
The steadfast rock of immortality.

With wide-embracing love
Thy Spirit animates eternal years,
Pervades and broods above,
Changes, sustains, dissolves, creates and rears

Though Earth and moon were gone,
And suns and universes ceased to be,
And Thou wert left alone,
Every Existence would exist in Thee.

There is not room for Death,
Nor atom that his might could render void:
Thou - Thou art Being and Breath,
And what Thou art may never be destroyed.

Details & Dimensions

The words are etched on 3mm. acrylic in non-toxic glow-in-the-dark pigment on a disk that measures 2cm. (3/4in.) in diameter.

Each bracelet is lovingly hand-tied (by me!) with nylon cord and adjustable up to about 30cm.

This design is very adjustable and fits most people but do let me know if you would like a smaller or larger size.

Care instructions

Acrylic can break if dropped and will snap under pressure. Please store your jewellery in its box and keep away from lotions and sprays as moisture can discolour metal parts.

Shipping & Returns

I aim to send out all orders as soon as possible, and usually manage within a couple days of receiving them. Special orders and bespoke designs can take up to a week longer, and with such a big range of products, some designs are made to order so can't be sent next day. Please allow two days from ordering to posting even if you choose Tracked 24 or Special Delivery.

If for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase you can return it to Wear and Resist in its original box and packaging within a month of purchase for a full refund or exchange. For reasons of hygiene I am afraid I cannot refund earrings.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

About Wear and Resist

Wear and Resist was launched by me, Sarah Day, in early 2017 as a way to channel my frustration at the political climate into a creative pursuit that would raise money for women's charities.

Wear and Resist is now running almost completely on solar energy.
